The way the legal council is moving right now? Is nothing short of outrageous. It’s painful to witness, especially when you consider how little the justice system has done, truly done for the majority of people in this country. And now, to see them dragging Judge Hlophe and Advocate Mkhwebane through the mud, trying to strike them off the roll, humiliating them publicly…
Was this fire there for the so-called advocates of justice who upheld that brutal apartheid system? Was this same accountability shown to those who signed off on the deaths of our freedom fighters, sending them to the gallows without a second thought? No. We were forced to accept the fact that they were forgiven, despite them not asking for it.
As a daughter of the soil, I refuse to sit quietly while the ghosts of apartheid echo through our so-called democracy. What’s happening now feels all too familiar…like history dressed up in new clothes hoping we won’t notice, nor catch wind of what this new dawn has brought us.
Which makes me ask myself, was this “new dawn” ever meant for us? Or has it always been a performance, another illusion to keep us pacified? Because when I look at the beloved cupcake, when I look at his record, I don’t see a leader of the people. I see someone so far removed from the pain and voices of the masses he claims to represent, it’s almost cruel.
Is he leading, or is he performing for someone else entirely?
