I have come to understand that we are all moving through life from different levels of consciousness. What I see, question and understand today may not be where someone else is, and I have learned to make peace with that. La Nkosi Writes is simply my space to speak from where I am. My writing has grown with me. What once felt like a place to simply voice my thoughts has become something much deeper. It is where I explore spirituality, womanhood, identity, history, politics, healing, ancestral memory and the things that continue to shape the lives of the people who came before us and those who will come after us.
I write because I have never been very good at pretending not to see what I see. I question things that are presented to us as normal. I challenge narratives that have been repeated for so long that people have stopped asking whether they were ever true. I write about the systems that fail us, the histories that are softened or erased, the wounds we inherit and the power that comes with remembering who we are. There is a revolutionary spirit in my writing, but there is also growth. I am learning that revolution is not only found in protest and resistance. Sometimes it is found in healing. Sometimes it is found in remembering. Sometimes it is found in a woman finally trusting her own voice after years of being taught to doubt it.
I do not write expecting everyone to agree with me. You are allowed to see the world differently. You are allowed to challenge my thinking and arrive at conclusions that are different from mine. What I hope for is that we never lose the ability to think for ourselves. My intention remains simple. I want to cut through the rhetoric, the propaganda and the noise so that the children of the soil can ask better questions, think critically and form their own understanding of the world around them.
