Could He Be The Worst ANCYL President?

The current president of the ANCYL, Collen Malatji could land himself the worst president the league has ever had title. If he continues to float on the wave of arrogance that has him singing outdated tunes, the youth have no interest in giving a listen.

La Nkosi

His lack of relatability is detrimental to his ability to effectively lead and represent the concerns of the youth. This is due to his focus being diluted, seeing that the young man is pinned on solely attacking his elders instead of addressing actual problems faced by the youth. Malatji’s silence on the NSFAS matter and the unemployment rate to name a few amplifies this sentiment among young people, being that his leadership has failed to prioritize and champion programs, whereby the problems are addressed, the guilty parties are held accountable, and the uprooting of any other threats that contribute to the failure of systems created to empower young people, ensuring that the affected are tended to without compromise. The ANCYL’s delay in addressing the rising unemployment rate among the youth, despite South Africa having one of the highest youth unemployment rates on a global scale, with a large percentage of young people being unemployed, isn’t a good move, their silence on loadshedding and the collapse of our SOEs is deafening. One would think this would be at the forefront of Malatji’s agenda, not going off on social media platforms dragging his elders for no absolute reason.

As our first youngest member of parliament, what did he do prior his election/appointment as president of the ANCYL, seeing that he was paraded as a young voice in parliament?

Others still hoped he would bring a fresh perspective and address the challenges faced by young South Africans when he was elected, only for him to use his platform to address the opposite by throwing insults, giving off the notion of him being a mini Fikile Mbalula, which adds more weight to the growing concerns about him being disconnected from the youth, and commitment to fighting his seniors/handlers’ battles. It’s always crickets when his voice is needed to address our problems as the Youth, a country governed by the ruling party he is a member of, leader of, and president of its youth wing, which was once admired and respected by those who know its history or got to live in a time when it thrived and genuinely championed the interests of young people, not only in the ANC but the country as a whole.

Malatji’s disconnection is evident in his failure to effectively advocate for the concerns of young people and his lack of visibility when it comes to engagements with the youth in communities. He seems to forget how his views despite them being personal represent that of the organization he is the face of, not just the president, and when he goes off on matters unrelated to the youth, it gives off an impression that the YL part of the ANCYL is silent.

  2. Thank you for penning this miss, you did not miss. Collen is a disgrace to the youth league that was once known for producing the likes of Peter Mokaba. He makes it seem like all young people in the ANC are dogs waiting for their chance to bark so they get their master’s bone. Why doesn’t he come for Mr SAA?

  3. The Youth League President & His Administration are Puppets that were parachuted into positions that they don’t deserve. They’re so far from matter that affect the Youth in the community on a daily basis.
Thank you La Nkosi for the thought provoking piece, 👏🙌
